How do you celebrate the renovation of a 115-year old historic hotel? By throwing a grand party and inviting special guests to help tell stories from its remarkable past. This was the direction The Pfister Hotel decided to take to mark the relaunch of Milwaukee's landmark hotel.
A few months ago, our agency put out a call to the public for special "Memories and Moments" that have taken place at the hotel.
We eagerly awaited the stories to come in. After all, for 115 years, the hotel has been the destination choice for celebrities, dignitaries, famous musicians, world leaders and untold numbers of young brides and grooms.
An amazing number of stories were shared with us. The best were honored at a special gala last night at The Pfister Hotel.
Not only was the Pfister sparkling last night as she showed off her "new dress," but so was Anastasia Papageorge. Anastasia and her husband George were one of 9 winners of the "Memories" contest.
It was Oct. 26, 1958 when she and George celebrated their wedding reception in the Imperial Ballroom. Anastasia and George returned to the Pfister Oct. 26 two days ago to celebrate their 50th wedding annivesary. They were surrounded by their children, grandchildren and close friends. As Anastasia puts it, "Every detail of the grandeur of the ballroom is as vivid in our minds today as it was on that special day."
The Kujawskis were also on hand last night to share their story. They too celebrated their wedding night at The Pfister. Robert Kujawski was on furlough from the war in 1942. He and Dorothy were wed on Thanksgiving Day and spent their first night together at the hotel. According to Robert, "For the night, The Pfister was our own world without a war going on or anyone telling us when to muster out."
